DUCCIO di Buoninsegna
(b. ca. 1255, Siena, d. 1319, Siena)

Triptych (detail)

1312-15
Tempera on wood
National Gallery, London

The detail shows the patriarchs and prophets in the gable, all carrying scrolls except for King David in the centre. He is more richly dressed, wears a crown and holds a book (presumably the Book of Psalms), and is the only figure with the remains of his name inscribed on the background.

The figures from the left to the right are: Daniel, Moses, Isaiah, David (in a perfect central position), Abraham, Jacob and Jeremiah.
