Johann Stabius left Ingolstadt in 1497 and took up his residence in Vienna as professor of mathematics; he became court astronomer to the Emperor. Dürer made geographical works for him.

Above on the left is the coat of arms of Cardinal Lang, Archbishop of Salzburg, and on the right a dedication to him. Below on the left are the coats of arms of Stabius, Conrad Heinfogel and Dürer, and on the right the privilege granted by Maximilian (dated 1515). The heading above the border line is Imagines coeli Meridionales.
