Small Passion: Title page1511
British Museum, London
The title of the book edition: Passio Christi ab Alberto Dürer Nurenbergense effigiata cu variis carminibus Fratris Benedicti Chelidonii Musophili. Nuremberg 1511. There are proofs (in Amsterdam, London and Stuttgart) which are earlier than the book edition.
The title page represents the Man of Sorrows. The illustration shows the first state (unique proof in the British Museum with the grammatical error "passionis"). The book edition has the title quoted as a heading above the figure. The text below the figure in the book edition is badly set up and has slipped out of place.
