The monumental unfinished tower rising up among the houses belong to the Grote Kerk, the most important identifiable Structure of Dordrecht. It can be seen in several pictures by Jan van Goyen, Aelbert Cuyp and their followers. The Trippenhuis, an imposing double residence in Dutch classicising style, was constructed in 1660-62 for the brothers Louys (1605-1684) and Hendrick Trip (1607-1666).
