Studies for a Building on a Centralised Plan

1487-90
Pencil and ink on paper
Bibliothèque de l'Institut de France, Paris

This drawing displays some of Leonardo's plans for the new dome to be built at the Milan Cathedral. Several of the items on this paper capture the dome from different angles plus there is also a bird's eye view for the planning of the exterior. Leonardo's work was not realised, other designs by Milanese court architects were preferred.

The drawing is from Codex B in the Institut de France in Paris, a model book of the types of sacred and profane buildings.
