Altarpiece of the Annunciation

Benedetto da Maiano was one of the most important sculptors working in the final decades of the fifteenth century. The Altarpiece of the Annunciation - one of his late masterpieces - is in effect a painted altarpiece turned to stone, replete with a predella and three-dimensional saints in the niches.
