In his late works Benedetto increased the size of his figures, reduced the number of characters within his reliefs and provided architectural settings free of unnecessary detail. A St Sebastian and a Virgin and Child (both Misericordia, Florence), both left unfinished in his studio at his death, were also conceived along the same lines.
