MASTER of the St. Bartholomew Altar
(active 1470-1510 in Cologne)

St Agnes, St Bartholomew and St Cecilia

1500-05
Wood, 129 x 161 cm
Alte Pinakothek, Munich

The name of the master is not known. Probably he arrived from Utrecht and was active in Cologne between 1485-1510. He got his name after his masterpiece, the St Bartholomew tryptych made for the church St Columba in Cologne.

This is the central panel of the tryptych in which the three saints are represented with their respective symbols: Saint Agnes with the lamb, Saint Bartholomew with the knife and Saint Cecilia with her musical instrument.
