This is the central panel of the altarpiece called Burg Weiler Altarpiece. The triptych was commissioned for the small chapel, adjacent to the castle of Burg Weiler, one of the seats of the Freiherren von und zu Weiler.

The central panel of the three-part altarpiece shows the Virgin and Child standing on a crescent moon, flanked by saints, Apollonia and Barbara to the left and Catherine of Alexandria and Lawrence to the right.
