The sitter of this elegant portrait is Francis Greville, Lord Brooke, later 1st Earl of Warwick (1719-1773). He was a refined and cultured noblemen of his generation, a significant patron of the arts, a musical enthusiast, who in 1741 was actively involved in helping to stage Italian opera in London.
