PISSARRO, Camille
(b. 1830, St Thomas, Virgin Islands, d. 1903, Paris)

The Red Roofs, View of a Village in Winter

1877
Oil on canvas, 54 x 65 cm
Musée d'Orsay, Paris

This typical work by Pissarro was shown in 1877 at the third Impressionist exhibition in Paris. In his many representations of rural life, which he continued to paint throughout his career, with fields, harvests, orchards, and vegetable gardens, he was at pains to portray light and landscape in unified harmony.
