Self-Portrait

This is the only self-portrait from the artist's mature period. He is shown half-length against a backdrop of patterned wallpaper hung with other pictures, details of which are scarcely discernible. Pissarro's deliberately simple self-portrait shows a man who did not like to draw much attention to himself.
