PONSONELLI, Giacomo Antonio
(b. 1654, Massa, d. 1735, Genova)

Bust of Marcantonio Grillo

Marble, life-size
Albergo dei Poveri, Genoa

Ponsonelli was the son-in-law of Filippo Parodi. His bust of Marcantonio Grillo betrays a familiarity with Bernini's bust of Louis XIV of 1665 and demonstrates how quickly such regal prototypes were absorbed into representations of the upper bourgeoisie.
