Ambrogio de Predis drew and painted Bianca Maria Sforza (1472-1510), Ludovico il Moro's niece, on several occasions. Bianca Maria's marriage by proxy to Emperor Maximilian I was held in late 1493. The present finely drawn silverpoint may have been done at roughly the same time, and the profile at the centre of the sheet could probably be that of Bianca Maria.
De Predis's facility with silverpoint reflects Leonardo's influence on the community of Milanese artists.
