Equestrian Statue of Peter the Great

St. Petersburg

Rastrelli worked in St. Petersburg mainly as a portraitist. His main subject was Peter the Great whose equestrian statue was modeled in 1719-24, but it was cast only in 1744 and erected in 1800. The statue was inspired by the famous Roman monument of Marcus Aurelius.
