RÉGNIER, Nicolas
(b. 1591, Maubeuge, d. 1667, Venice)

Self-Portrait with a Portrait on an Easel

1623-24
Oil on canvas, 111 x 138 cm
Fogg Art Museum, Harvard University, Cambridge

This painting is seems to be a tribute to the sitter of the portrait on the easel, who may be identified as Marchese Vincenzo Giustiniani, the collector and patron of Caravaggio to whom Régnier was 'pittore di casa'. It has been suggested that Régnier moved into the Palazzo Giustiniani around 1622.
