Comparison with the late self-portrait shows that the figure on the left in the background of The Presentation of Christ in the Temple is recognizably a portrait of Jacopo Tintoretto. By integrating a portrait of his father in the design for the mosaic, Domenico gave him an honourable memorial in his own lifetime near the altar of San Marco.
