This etching depicts a mock sea battle designed by Bernardo Buontalenti (c. 1531-1608) and staged in the cortile of Palazzo Pitti (flooded for the occasion) as part of the festivities celebrating the 1589 marriage of Ferdinando I de' Medici and Christine of Lorraine.

Orazio Scarabelli was an Italian printmaker, active in Florence.
