The Dutch Fleet in the Goeree Straits (Guinea)

1664
Oil on canvas, 70 x 98 cm
Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza, Madrid

The painting depicts the Dutch fleet off Goeree, where it was protecting its commercial fleet from possible English attack. Some of the ships on the canvas have been identified: on the left we see the Vrede and next to it near the centre the Due Helden Davids', slightly further back is the flagship the Eendmcht.
