Jan van de Velde I published his 'Spieghel der schrijfkonste' in 1605. In addition to fine examples of calligraphy, this book describes a series of lettertypes. The title on the book's titlepage is inscribed in Van de Velde's own calligraphic hand. The design for the presentation of the calligraphy was by the artist Karel van Mander.
