Paulus van Vianen's brief sojourn in Rome is referred to in Utrecht documents. According to these, the artist went to Italy after his journey to France, which can be dated to around 1590. Nothing survived from Vianen's drawings in Italy, later drawings in Salzburg show traces of his nostalgic reminiscences of Italy.
