The triptych on panel in marble frame represents Madonna della Misericordia (Our Lady of Mercy) in the centre, the Meeting of Joachim and Anne on the left and the Birth of Mary on the right.
The triptych shows the influence of Mantegna and Squarcione on the art produced by the Vivarini workshop, next in importance to Bellini's in Venice at the dawn of the Renaissance. Vivarini focused this entire work on the development of a sharp, almost sculptural line - which harmonizes well with the marble frame - enhanced by colouring that is brilliant, suggesting a not negligible influence by the work of Donatello, whose St John the Baptist he could see in the church of Frari.
