WILLIAMS, English family of painters

The Williams family of painters played an prominent role in English art throughout the nineteenth century. Edward Williams (1781-1855) was the patriarch of the family. He was a successful landscape artist during the Victorian era, followed by his six sons and several of his many grandchildren. The family became known as the Barnes School since they worked in neighbouring studios in Barnes, London, on the south side of the Thames River.
