Portrait of Eva Wtewael

1628
Oil on panel, 55 x 41 cm
Centraal Museum, Utrecht

Joachim Wtewael was a versatile artist. He painted religious and mythological scenes, genre pieces and portraits. He also designed functional but beautiful objects (e.g. salt-cellar, stained-glass window). For himself, he painted a series of portraits of his immediate family. The portrait of his daughter Eva, painted in 1628, shows her looking up from her lace-making.
