In the Netherlands in the 16th century, furnishing churches with pulpits, choir screens and stalls, lecterns, fonts, chandeliers often required major investments, and provided works for artists. An appeal was also made to craftsmen for the furnishing of monasteries, hospitals, episcopal palaces and town halls.
