UNKNOWN GOLDSMITH, Dutch
(active 1670s in The Hague)

Vase and two flasks

1678-79
Silver, height 42 cm and 36 cm
Private collection

These silver objects are exceptional both in form and decoration. The accumulation of bulbous forms was probably inspired by Chinese and Japanese porcelain objects, great number of which were imported into the Netherlands in the 17th century. These special decorative objects were made in The Hague, probably by the silversmith Barent van Milanen.
