Rectangular Snuff-box

1753-54
Gold, enamel, 3,7 x 8,1 x 6 cm
Musée du Louvre, Paris

This rectangular snuff-box with enamelled scenes after François Boucher is attributed to Jean Ducrollay (1734-1761). The enamels are the work of Liot, a Parisian enameller. The scenes reflect Boucher's influence, evident in the choice of one of the themes he most contributed to make popular: scenes of children. Those on the lid, Fishing, and on the bottom, Hunting, are replicas of two of the eight panels attributed to Boucher and held in the Frick Collection, New York.
