Oyster Stand

c. 1750
Porcelain
Galleria Palatina (Palazzo Pitti), Florence

Only four examples of these oyster stands exist today, all of which are at the porcelain collection of the Pitti Palace. Initially ordered as part of larger set from the Sèvres manufacturer by the ducal household in Parma, they were later bought by the court in Florence, along with other French porcelain to form the base of an extensive collection. The stands show the lapis lazuli border that was typical of the early Sèvres years.
