Large Square Sèvres Flower Tub

1758-59
Porcelain, height 57 cm (overall), 20 cm (tub)
Private collection

The flower tub (caisse à fleurs) was painted by Denis Levé, of tapering square section, each side painted with colourful flowers and fruit bouquets, the corners with interlacing flower swags, filled with porcelain-headed green metal flowers.

The present jardinière is the only one recorded of this form without handles. Four examples with two angular handles on the sides are known.
