Sèvres Frises Riches Ecuelle and Cover

1767
Porcelain, gilt-bronze, width 17,2 cm
Private collection

This ecuelle and cover (ecuelle 'ronde tournée' et sa couvercle) is richly painted with a wide border of blue and pink harebells trailing flower garlands and scrolling on a gilt seeded ground edged with a gilt ciselé band suspending berried garland swags. The decoration was painted by Charles-Louis Méreaud the Younger (c. 1735-1780) who was recorded from 1756 at Sèvres as a painter specializing in flowers and patterns.
