In plan the Château de Madrid is of importance. It consists of appartements connected by public rooms, and du Cerceau explicitly praises the manner in which each apartment is arranged to be a self-contained unit with its separate entrance by a spiral staircase. The design consists of two square blocks linked by the narrower rooms.
