The Château de Madrid near the Bois de Boulogne was begun in 1527, it is not certain who was responsible for the plans for the building. The château was abandoned and demolished in the 18th century. The appearance of the château is preserved for us in the engravings of Androuet du Cerceau.
The decoration of the interior was based on Early Italian Mannerism. The forms are those familiar in the late 1520s in decorative engravings, particularly the caryatides which turn into architectural features, such as consoles or foliated balustrades.
