Monstrance

1578-90
Silver, height 200 cm
Diocesan Museum, Valladolid

The silver monstrance of the Valladolid cathedral was embossed and carved by Juan de Arfe. It consists of four parts the perimeter of which gradually dereases. Its decoration is structured in an elegant structural style. The classicism of its lines and volumes perfectly harmonizes with the themes that inspired the artist, among which the group formed by Adam and Eve tempted by the snake stands out. The monstrance weighs 63 kg.
