The funerary statue of Nicolas Le Jay, Garde des Sceaux (1573-1640) was made in accordance with his will in 1636 for his tomb in the church of the Minims on the Place Royale in Paris. It accompanied a kneeling statue of Madeleine Marchand. The bust was cut away from the large kneeling statue when the figure was installed in the Musée des Monuments Français during the Revolution.
