BINCK, Jacob
(b. ca. 1500, Köln, d. ca. 1569, Königsberg)

Christian II of Denmark

c. 1525
Engraving, 126 x 84 mm
British Museum, London

Jacob Binck was a German painter, medalist, and a flexible and widely traveled printmaker.

This monogrammed engraving copies in reverse a woodcut by Jan Gossart. While it is sometimes taken for the original, several details suggest that Binck's engraving was based on the woodcut.
