Bisschop was a versatile artist, who painted portraits, large scale wall decoration and bird pieces. The present canvas, depicting a goose, a kingfisher, and other birds in a landscape, is a characteristic example of the latter category where the artist adopted a number of characteristics of Melchior d'Hondecoeter's mature style.
