This engraving portraying the painter Adriaen Brouwer is from Anthony Van Dyck's "Iconography" series, formally published for the first time only in 1645, after the death of both masters. The 80 engravings in this initial edition of the Iconography illustrate eminent men (both living and deceased) of various vocations, including artists. The portrait of Brouwer was engraved by Schelte à Bolswert after a lively oil sketch by Van Dyck.
