Wild Horses

Oil on canvas, 38 x 56 cm
Private collection

Rosa Bonheur's most recognizable and widely known images are her paintings of horses. She painted equine subjects on both a small and grand scale throughout her career. In the present painting, a wild bay stands in an open pasture, while other horses graze in the distance.
