BRIL, Paul
(b. 1554, Antwerpen, d. 1626, Roma)

Etruscan Tomb in Latium

c. 1600
Pen, brown ink over black chalk. 155 x 223 mm
Szépművészeti Múzeum, Budapest

This drawing by Bril is made unique in his presently known oeuvre due to the large ruin in the foreground, since he typically placed depicted buildings in his landscapes in the middleground and added a repoussoir to one or both sides of the foreground. The drawing was probably made for the main motif of a larger composition, now lost.
