The coat of arms behind the left shoulder of the woman identifies her as a member of a prominent family of merchants in Cologne, the Slosgins. She is represented half length, seated behind a parapet. The costume of the woman is typical of that found in other female portraits by the painter. According to the inscription at upper left, the sitter was thirty-four years old. Her concealed hair and the white covering affixed to the front of her bonnet indicate that she was married.
