BUGATTI, Italian family of artists
Carlo Bugatti is best known for his highly original furniture designs. About 1904, he moved from Milan to Paris, probably to advance the careers of his sons Rembrandt Bugatti (1884-1916) and Ettore Bugatti (1881-1947). Although Rembrandt trained originally in his father's workshop, he subsequently became a sculptor whose most common subjects were animals. Ettore revealed a talent for mechanics at an early age and went on to become internationally known as a designer of exclusive cars and racing cars. Ettore's son Jean Bugatti (1909-1939) worked with his father as a designer until death in a car crash.
