CAIRO, Francesco del
(b. 1607, Milano, d. 1665, Milano)

Mary Magdalene in Ecstasy

c. 1650
Oil on canvas, 58 x 47 cm
Private collection

Many of Cairo's works are eccentric depictions of religious ecstasies; the saints appear liquefied and contorted by piety. He often caps them with exuberant, oriental turbans.
