CASTELLO, Valerio
(b. 1624, Genova, d. 1659, Genova)

Holy Family with an Angel

-
Oil on canvas, 74,5 x 62,5 c,
Private collection

Valerio Castello, starting probably from a prototype by Van Dyck popular in Genoa, painted several versions of the Holy Family. This version was executed for private devotion.

The iconography of this painting shows similarity with both the paintings of Coreggio and the sculptures of contemporary Genoese artists Pierre Puget and Filippo Parodi.
