CHARDIN, Jean-Baptiste-Siméon

The House of Cards

1737
Oil on canvas, 82 x 66 cm
National Gallery of Art, Washington

This is the last of the four versions of the subject by Chardin. The simple and at the same time elegant composition, the physical and psychological characterization of the boy recalls the famous painting Card Players by Paul Cézanne.
