DEGAS, Edgar
(b. 1834, Paris, d. 1917, Paris)

The Tub

1886-89
Bronze, 23 x 44 x 46 cm
Musée d'Orsay, Paris

With this work, Degas realized an innovative form of representation: a sculpture intended to be viewed from above. It is possible that Degas intended the sculpture to be placed directly on the floor, without a plinth.
