Encounter of Hylas and the Nymphs

-
Fresco
Palazzo Papadopoli, Santa Marina, Venice

Giovanni Demin worked together with Francesco Hayez at the Papadopoli residence at Santa Marina. Demin was given the task of decorating the bathroom. In keeping with the use of the room, Demin chose mythological episodes in which nudes could be included. On the whole, the figures are painted against backgrounds of rivers or lakes. The most important scene is Hylas and the Nymphs. Demin showed young women in various states of undress round the timid and apparently shivering youth.
