Virgin and Child

1420s
Polychrome terracotta, 90 x 64 cm

Images of the Madonna and Child in terracotta were widely diffused in 15th-century Florence. This relief carving, whose attribution to Donatello is doubtful, comes from the town of Scarperia in the Province of Florence. It was originally intended for placement in a niche.
