DONATELLO
(b. ca. 1386, Firenze, d. 1466, Firenze)

Pulpit (detail)

1428-38
Marble on mosaic background, 74 x 79 cm (each relief)
Duomo, Prato

There are qualitative and stylistic differences that are noticeable on closer examination of the individual reliefs on the pulpit, and these have led to the assumption that Donatello certainly did not produce all the work himself. The motif of the dancing and music-making putti is similar to that Donatello used during the same period on the Cantoria of Florence cathedral.
