Dorffmeister József István Pál (Joseph Dorffmeister in Austria) was a Hungarian painter, the son of the painter Dorffmeister (or Dorffmaister) Isván (Stephan Dorffmeister). He studied with his father and at the Vienna Academy. He was an architecture painter with his father, then later painted altarpieces and portraits.
The present painting was submitted for the Vienna Academy as a reception piece in 1804. However, it brought him no membership. Although he was a pupil at the Academy he was not elected as a member.
