DORIGNY, Charles
(d. 1551, Paris)

Deposition from the Cross

1548
Oil on panel
Église Sainte-Marguerite, Paris

This painting is an altarpiece painted by Charles Dorigny for the Orléans Chapel in the church of the Célestines. It is a monumental design, deriving largely from Rosso, but having a distinctive French flavour and probably with, in the head of Joseph of Arimathea, a portrait of Henry II.
